Holiday Leave/Pay
Holiday leave (annual leave) is paid time off work that employees can take for rest or personal time while still being paid.
How do holidays work?
Holidays work different based on what contract your employee has. Below, select the contract type to view how holidays will work for you.
Variable & Zero hours
Your employee(s) holiday is accrued (0.1207 hours per hour worked).
Contracted to a certain amount of hours
Your employee(s) are entitled to 5.6 weeks of normal working hours.
Where do I find my employee(s) holiday balance?
If your employee works variable hours, the holiday details will be displayed on their latest payslip above “net pay”.
What does it all mean?
Entitlement – Total annual allowance
Accrual – Built-up holiday
Balance – Holiday remaining available to be taken
How does my employee use their holiday?
Please Note: The holiday year runs April–March (unless your Local Authority states otherwise). Unused holiday cannot be carried over, so plan ahead.
When your PA takes leave, report both holiday hours and usual hours to payroll.
On timesheets, write or state “HP” and the hours taken.
